Rodent Management

There are many different rodent species in Australia both Native and introduced, but there are only 3 commensal species which are the house mouse, Norway rat and roof rat. Commensal means living at mans expense without contributing anything beneficial to the relationship.

It is important to recognise what rodent species you are dealing with and a well trained pest controller’s eye can determine what species by looking at their droppings. It is the most successful means of determining one species from another.

Rodents can be found in a host of different environments. Rodents are one of the most successful mammals in the world. They have been able to inhabit all areas on earth and exploit all food and harbourage. They are a transmitter of disease due to the environment that they inhabit. They then carry the disease on their body to your home, commercial kitchen, food manufacturing site, café.

Control

There are a host of different methods in order to gain control over all species of rodents but first and foremost the pest controller should look at habitat modification. In other words remove the rodent’s food and water source plus proof all access points to the building. Note all proofing work should only be carried out once the rodents have been controlled. Otherwise the animal can be trapped inside the building.

Different Baiting Methods

A host of different baits vary from the traditional rat bait either in pellets or block forms, Rat drink which is a fluid rodent bait, tracking powder this is a concentrated powder that is placed in rodent burrows or runways and Rodent Lard, this is a rodent bait that is mixed with lard or Steve’s black ART bait.

BLACK ART

Black art is handmade rodent bait that is made by Steve Cope. Steve has used 30 years of experience in rodent management to create a bait matrix that offers the rodent an alternative food/bait.

The benefit

KOPC can provide commercial, industrial and domestic rodent management for all rodent species. A program would be tailored to your site.   We also supply a full explanation of all methods used plus a detailed site map outlining where all rodent stations are situated.
